Protests Erupt In Tamil Nadu Over Kongu Nadu Demand In The State

Tamil Nadu has been engulfed with unconfirmed reports of bifurcation ostensibly after the DMK referred to the central government as the 'Union government', and a baseless report in a Tamil daily about the creation of a separate state set social media afire. Since Friday, Twitter and Facebook have been flooded with posts favouring and opposing the concept of creating 'Kongu Nadu', carved out of Tamil Nadu. Kongu Nadu or Kongu Mandalam, is a geographical region consisting of Palani, Karur, Dharapuram, Thiruchengodu, Erode, Pollachi, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri, Niligiris, Avinashi, Satyamangalam, Coimbatore and Udumalaipet districts of Tamil Nadu, which form the state’s western part.
