@stevejohnson1321منذ 5 سنوات One other important factor: ages ago UHF channels were typically spaced at least six-apart from one another. @wrightmfمنذ 5 سنوات Thanks for another excellent production, clear concise. I remember back prior to first repack and transition to DTV where a main "selling point" id="hidden11" class="buttons"> was providing 700 MHz to public safety, i.e. "if they had 700 MHz, the interoperability problems during 9-11 would have never happened." Which is the most ridiculous claim. In reality, PS gets some spectrum but most is towards wireless consumer products. Like the 600 MHz repack, there is ever-growing demands for all these wireless devices that need spectrum.
Few months ago I saw an Spectrum Monitor article about the new ATSC 3.0 to take effect next year. Author began with companies mention ATSC 3.0 will enhance your viewer experience like they mention cookies will enhance your web browsing experience. And if you are suspicious you have every right to be because they simply want to collect data and later sell it to advertisers. And once they go ATSC 3.0, your current DTV will need a converter box.
IEEE Broadcast Technology Society magazine has lots of articles of ATSC 3.0, there was so many changes that they skipped ATSC 2.0. However their issue covering NAB show said no ATSC 3.0 TV sets were available (or none were displayed).
Other than that, excellent tutorials you have. Much of it I already know but also a good review. And also you clear up stuff like "there is no such thing as a HD antenna." I kept seeing those ads and thinking RF is RF and a antenna is an antenna. Or am I missing something. No, as you said, simply a gimmick by marketing people.

@focus2004ableمنذ 5 سنوات Here in Australia, Analogue TV was broadcast on VHF channels 0 to 11, and UHF on channels 28 to 69, the ACMA started auctioning off the 700 & 800 Mhz id="hidden15" class="buttons"> sections of the TV band after the Analogue switch off to phone companies so they could build their 4G mobile networks, so UHF channels 52 to 69 were chopped from the band, and all TV stations broadcasting within those channels had to be shifted onto channels between 28 and 51, or onto a vacant VHF channel, which required a bit of shuffling around of channels in some areas. ....وسعت

Now when I want to set up an outdoor antenna id="hidden18" class="buttons"> the FCC has been cutting the available tv frequencies for more cell phones. The quality of cell phone function is crappy at best and the price to have one is getting more expensive. The only real benefit is for safety in some instances. They’ve cause more problems than their worth. Much like the internet. Both had such promise but as Edward R. Murrow said about television they have become vast waste lands. The problems they’ve created far outweigh their benefits. We have sophisticated technologies that we are not smart enough get the full potential. @writerpatrickمنذ 5 سنوات The same thing happened to ham radio. The bandwidth that operators could use diminished. I can't say what it's like today, especially with ham id="hidden26" class="buttons"> being surpassed by the Internet.
I remember under the old system that there were a lot of empty channels. The danger of this new system is that it makes it nearly impossible for a new broadcast channel to start up and cuts back on room for diginets.

@shenghe9876منذ 2 سنوات The FCC repack can also be affecting the launch of ATSC 3.0 because the 600 MHz frequency band is being sold to T-Mobile and there may not be enough space id="hidden33" class="buttons"> for the new ATSC 3.0 channels in some areas. This means that some stations might need to relocate their ATSC 1.0 signal to other stations, so they could launch ATSC 3.0 on their own transmitter.
The 600 MHz cellular band should only be used in rural areas and not urban areas, because there are less cellular transmitters, and lower frequencies can travel longer distances, and also ATSC 3.0 services can be launched in major cities if the lower frequencies are congested.

@soth122003منذ 5 سنوات Hey Tyler. I enjoy your channel very much. I live in Niceville Fl. 32578 The problem I have is most of the towers are between 50 and 80 miles away and id="hidden40" class="buttons"> Niceville is in a depression like bowl area. I have an ota antenna(30 ft high) and get decent reception on most of the channels. I am currently using an RCA pre amp that has a 22db signal boost. I am upgrading to the Radio Shack model for the variable gain and it goes to 33 db. I cut the cord years ago and use ota and streaming services thru the internet. That being said, I'd like to see you do a video on thermal radiation (Heat waves from the sun bouncing of the surface of land) and signal interference (cell phone and tower output) that is predominant during the day. Also cloudy days seem better due to signals bouncing off the clouds. Which is why channels come in so much better at night after the sun goes down. You might want to tell your viewers the best time to tune the tv is during the day, in the summer between 1 and 4 pm. This will let them know that the channels they get during this time will be the ones they will get all the time. If you disagree with this please let me know why. @bluhammer06منذ 5 سنوات From a broadcasters standpoint this has been a losing and costly situation. We started in a very good sized market on analog 13. We were than displaced id="hidden43" class="buttons"> to Channel 53. We than had to buy an all new digital system for the transition to digital. We than were displaced again to channel 51. Each change requires the replacement of our antenna at $30k plus and a loss of viewers than don’t re-scan, not to mention legal and licensing costs. Than we were displaced again this year and were faced with maybe getting a new channel through an auction or frequency sharing and paying another broadcaster to carry us. We then were lucky enough to get channel 39, but by now it was just not financially worth it to give it another go. Some made out, some didn’t. ....وسعت

@OM19_MO79منذ 5 سنوات Mexico has a similar thing going on now, as ATSC and the same bands are also used and even shared in some border area, the IFT (Mexico´s communications authority) is also moving stations from their channels. There are, however, some major defferences and technically, there is no repack. The channels that are being moved are only those that were allocated past channel 37. Channels that were already allocated below channel 37 were not moved at all. Also, there was no incentive auction of any kind, no stations recieved indemnity payments to return the frequency, actually, no stations went off the air because of this reason. All stations were required to move to another avaialble channel in the UHF band to make things easier for them, only one transmitter was required to move from channel 51 to channel 2 and they are due but they will probably have their licence revoked by the end of the year anyway and not just for this reason (search for Comband, MVS and channel 51 to know more about it). Since there was no auction to make space, some areas, like Mexico City, have nearly all of the UHF band completely saturated. VHF has become reserved for upcoming new stations. ....وسعت
