@cehnd26624 years ago I haven't seen a whole live octopus served like that in Korea. They usually kill it, chop the legs into tiny pieces then serve it. It's way too dangerous to eat it like that, you'll choke and die. 132

@yunjoofullast month I remember trying sannakji for the first time about like 10 years ago. My father once brought me to a big seafood market and dared me to eat it. />For me, it wasn't an enjoyable meal; it felt more like a challenge. Nevertheless, being Korean myself, I thought sannakji wouldn't be a problem, or I hoped so, even though I almost burst into tears.
As I chewed on the squirming pieces of the creature, I realized it was... delicious!
Since that day, I've often gone to a nearby seafood market with my friends and happily ordered sannakji.

@survivormanable4 years ago “Octopuses really are the best example we have on Earth of a second
intelligence,” says Robyn Crook, a neuroscientist from San Francisco />State University. We last shared a common ancestor with them around 800
million years ago, and their brains have evolved independently from
ours. And yet Dölen’s study showed that our brains have a few extreme
similarities, from the molecular level to the behavioral one.

@xxkillerklownxx34625 years ago “It's probable that the octopus's reaction to pain is similar to a vertebrate. They can anticipate a painful, difficult, stressful situation—they can remember it. There is absolutely no doubt that they feel pain. The octopus has a nervous system which is much more distributed than ours. If you look at us, most of our neurons are in our brain, and for the octopus, three-fifths of its neurons are in its arms.
If you've got pieces of arm, because there's so much local control, they might react to the painful stimuli that they get, but they're probably not exactly "feeling pain," because they're disconnected from the brain. But the octopus, which you've been chopping to pieces, is feeling pain every time you do it. It's just as painful as if it were a hog, a fish, or a rabbit, if you chopped a rabbit's leg off piece by piece. So it's a barbaric thing to do to the animal.”

@tixtac15483 years ago If you don't like what other people do in their countries then simply ✨Don't go✨ Stop judging other peoples cultures. :/
Animals eat each other alive all the time yet we judge humans for doing it.
Grow up. The circle of life is a real thing, how do you guys think we get our food. We hunt and kill. We breed and we kill. If you can't handle that then that's a you problem not anyone elses.
